There are some services and products that many take for granted and you never know how much they're needed until you're the one in need.

This was our experience with Ronald McDonald House®.

## Ronald McDonald House

Of course, with the first Ronald McDonald House opening in 1974, it has literally been around my entire life.

I had heard about it, but, as most parents probably do, never imagined needing their services.

Eight years ago next March, that all changed for us. With our (*then*) 7-year-old daughter spending a week at Cook's Children's Hospital in Ft. Worth, we became residents of the local Ronald McDonald House.

I spent a week there so that I could be with our daughter as much as possible throughout her treatments.

Not only were we offered a private room with comfortable beds, but we were fed each day, our other children had a place to play, and we built relationships with other parents who understood our situation.

## How you can help RMHC families?

We decided from that point on that as soon as we could, we would pay it forward. Fortunately, that can be as easy as visiting your local McDonald’s.

With each Happy Meal® or Mighty Kids Meal® purchase, a penny is donated to support [RMHC](https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/community/giving-back-with-ronald-mcdonald-house.html) programs and services, including Ronald McDonald House®, Ronald McDonald Family Room®, and Ronald McDonald Care Mobile®.

Or, you can drop your spare change in an RMHC Donation Box at the pay counter or drive-thru.

Additionally, once a year, McDonald's restaurants across the country participate in a national [fundraiser](https://www.ourfamilylifestyle.com/fundraising-flipgive/) for RMHC, allowing customers to donate money directly to RMHC in an even bigger way.

In addition to RMHC, McDonald's also gives back to the local community through other programs and services, such as:

- [HACER® Scholarships for Hispanic Students](https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/community/hacer.html)
- [365 Black](https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/365black.html)
- [McDonald's APA](https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/asian-pacific-americans/en.html)

You can learn about these programs, services, and much more by attending a Lunch Bunch near you.

Lunch Bunch is a new initiative hosted by McDonald’s of North Texas and City Moms Blog (*Dallas, Fort Worth and East Texas*) to invite local moms and dads into the restaurant to learn more about McDonald’s and its commitment to education, food, and giving back in local communities.
