If you have, you know how excited Chip gets over Demo Day. It's one of his favorite parts of the process. That's always been Colby's favorite part of the show. Well, when we [bought our travel trailer](https://www.ourfamilylifestyle.com/we-bought-an-rv-travel-trailer/), Colby was able to finally live out his own dreams of demo day. We knew there was a lot of work to do, so we just dove in and started tearing out everything we knew we didn't like. We were going to remove the RV cabinets, the wallpaper border, and even some of the furniture. In addition to gutting the camper slide out as I mentioned above. The [carpet](https://ourfamilylifestyle.com/deep-clean-carpet-yourself/) was stained, full of dust and dirt, and made the entire camper feel old and smell musty. ### How to remove RV carpet Fortunately, it wasn't very hard to remove. It took a bit of tugging, but once we got it started, it was one of the easiest parts of the removal process. Next, in order to remove the rest of the carpet, we began gutting the slide out. It was going to be completely recreated. [Removing the carpet](https://ourfamilylifestyle.com/pet-proof-carpet/) meant removing the furniture. The [sofa sleeper](https://www.amazon.com/Loveseat-Sleeper-Mattress-Pocketed-Furniture/dp/B07G5ZTGWY/ref=as%5Fli%5Fss%5Ftl?dchild=1&keywords=sleeper+sofa&qid=1599620913&refinements=p%5F72:1248915011&rnid=1248913011&s=home-garden&sr=1-6&linkCode=ll1&tag=7onashoe-20&linkId=75b8ec0cae3e65d8511bb097869262f0&language=en%5FUS) was easy because it wasn't attached, but challenging due to it's size. The [table and benches](https://www.ourfamilylifestyle.com/repurpose-your-rv-dinette-bench-and-table-set/) were disassembled by removing a few screws. Otherwise, not too difficult. So, all the staples and any [rivets](https://www.amazon.com/Tradespro-836341-Aluminum-Assortment-500-Piece/dp/B003L116P8/ref=as%5Fli%5Fss%5Ftl?ac%5Fmd=0-0-cml2ZXRz-ac%5Fd%5Frm&cv%5Fct%5Fcx=rivets&dchild=1&keywords=rivets&pd%5Frd%5Fi=B003L116P8&pd%5Frd%5Fr=964f1b04-469f-41d6-ae40-e38fe52740c6&pd%5Frd%5Fw=w6Fg9&pd%5Frd%5Fwg=ECiEW&pf%5Frd%5Fp=c21000ce-3f0e-4b5a-be89-1520c0b89442&pf%5Frd%5Fr=TSXE34QVD2QB5R5D0P1C&psc=1&qid=1599672952&sr=1-1-12d4272d-8adb-4121-8624-135149aa9081&linkCode=ll1&tag=7onashoe-20&linkId=a6de870581d8b35a4bc157faecaf3db1&language=en%5FUS) they use for assembly come from the outside, in. Which means, when you go to remove anything, you're pulling in the opposite direction of the hardware. As you can imagine, there is plenty of resistance and some damage can occur. We did our best to minimize the damage to the walls. Each removal began using a [pry bar](https://www.amazon.com/TEKTON-3320-18-Inch-Utility-Pry/dp/B000NPPB1A/ref=as%5Fli%5Fss%5Ftl?ac%5Fmd=1-0-VW5kZXIgJDIw-ac%5Fd%5Fpm&cv%5Fct%5Fcx=pry+bar&dchild=1&keywords=pry+bar&pd%5Frd%5Fi=B000NPPB1A&pd%5Frd%5Fr=717f5afe-8b2f-46dc-9b05-f2c1e97a23a8&pd%5Frd%5Fw=ywqro&pd%5Frd%5Fwg=yhiJv&pf%5Frd%5Fp=dd408b86-c778-43f3-bf9d-b5d0a0c790a0&pf%5Frd%5Fr=WHG6YXAYNHYEKQ3KD963&psc=1&qid=1599669645&sr=1-1-22d05c05-1231-4126-b7c4-3e7a9c0027d0&linkCode=ll1&tag=7onashoe-20&linkId=db5014747d90f01a36b9c8d7e16da1d4&language=en%5FUS). Again, tug gently to minimize any damage to the thin RV walls. By the way, within 24 hours of removing the carpet, the trailer began to smell *sooooo* much better! Carpet truly retains a lot of junk; odors, stains, and more. We could paint over the rest. Fortunately, once it started lifting, it was fairly easy to pull off. We then scrubbed any adhesive left behind off with [Goo Gone](https://www.amazon.com/Goo-Gone-Original-Adhesive-Stickers/dp/B009M14C4S/ref=as%5Fli%5Fss%5Ftl?dchild=1&keywords=goo+gone&qid=1599621588&sr=8-3&linkCode=ll1&tag=7onashoe-20&linkId=82a763f8aff6ffa946de32353990eb27&language=en%5FUS). As well as just to be completely cleaned and sanitized. Overall, the demolition process only took us a day to complete. Things progressed quickly with Colby and I, plus Jaci, working on it. We were excited about this part of the process, but even more eager to get started on the [RV remodel](https://www.ourfamilylifestyle.com/rv-travel-trailer-remodel/).
